Mexico, Aug 30, 2023 (Press Release) - Bio Pappel signed the Science-Based Target Initiative (SBTi) and pledged to establish goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Martin Rincón, Chief Sustainability and Operating Officer at Bio Pappel, stated, "This is a crucial moment in history because we are facing a global challenge that calls for unified and determined action against climate change. Bio Pappel's commitment is rooted in the rigorous implementation of strategies backed by the most current scientific research." The Science-Based Target Initiative (SBTi) is a collaboration between the United Nations Global Compact, WWF (World Wildlife Fund), CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project), and WRI Mexico (World Resources Institute), whose primary purpose is to assist companies in setting emissions reduction targets and achieving the goals outlined in the Paris Agreement. The Paris Agreement is an international treaty that aims to limit the increase in global temperature to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. To fulfill this agreement, reducing global emissions by 45% by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 is necessary. Martin Rincón added, "The role of companies in the fight against climate change is vital, and that's why we are willing to embrace transformative changes in our operations, investments, and technologies to create a positive impact. The time is now, and we are ready to take action."

To fulfill this commitment, Bio Pappel will utilize the services of the consulting firm Carbon Trust. According to the GHG Protocol methodology, this company will validate the carbon footprint with direct and indirect emissions from Bio Pappel's operations (Scope 1 and 2 of the project) and the processes across the entire value chain (Scope 3). Scope 3 will be applied to Bio Pappel's operations in Mexico. Progress will be made in Scopes 1 and 2 for the United States and Colombia. Following the intervention of Carbon Trust, it will be SBTi's role to validate that Bio Pappel's emission reduction objectives align with climate science. Around the world, approximately 5,720 companies have science-based targets, and 3,205 have received SBTi approval. Furthermore, there are 2,257 corporations with commitments to net-zero emissions.

Bio Pappel is a company committed to sustainability and has incorporated environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria into its business. Additionally, it is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations Global Compact.

It's worth mentioning that Bio Pappel is a USMCA (United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement) company due to its operations in all three countries.
